A 58-year-old man who had been fired from his job as a clothing designer shot and killed a former co-worker and injured several others as bullets flew Friday outside the Empire State Building. Police shot and killed Jeffrey Johnson, and nine people were injured. Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said some of the injured might have been hit by police gunfire.

On Friday, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said it would impose a lifetime ban on Armstrong and strip him of all his wins since 1998, but that decision may be appealed.
