Laura Modine Williams, age 91, of Amity, passed from this life on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, in Glenwood. She was born May 7, 1920, in Amity, the daughter of the late Lone and Bettie Hancock Wilson.
Modine was a member of Bethsaida Church of Christ, worked at Oberman's Manufacturing and Dwiggins Peach Orchard. In 1992, she proudly earned her GED at the age of 72. She helped organized and was a volunteer for the Amity Ambulance Service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Allen Williams; son, Danny C. Williams; and grandson, Michael E. Garner.
Survivors include one son, James A. Williams and wife Kay of Gunter, Texas; one daughter, Vivian L. Garner and husband Bruce of Carrolton, Texas; four grandsons, Craig Williams and wife Emily, Jason Garner and wife Stephanie, Joseph Williams and Barry Williams; two granddaughters, Debra Stake and husband Patrick, and Ramona Bale and husband Maurice; four great-grandsons, Jason Stake, Graeme Williams, Cade Garner and Noah Garner; five great-granddaughters, Susan Stake, Emalie Garner, Brooke Williams, Madison Garner and Parker Bale; and one adopted son, Buddy Maxey of Rosboro.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia. Burial will be in Bethsaida Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bethsaida Cemetery Fund.
