The Badger boys pulled off the only win for Arkadelphia Friday night at the AHS gymnasium, shooting down the Scrappers 64-47. The Lady Badgers fell to the Scrapperettes 37-48 and the junior varsity boys also lost, 28-31.
The Badgers, who have been slow to get going in many games this season, trailed the Scrappers by one point, 5-6, at the  end of the first period before picking up the pace and going into the halftime break with a nine point lead, 20-11. The Badgers increased their lead during the third period and showed that they can hit shots from the perimeter. Cordiars Arnold and Jakhari Dixon hit three 3-pointers each during the Badgers 23 point third quarter.
But scrappy the Scrappers were as they continued to chip away at the Badgers lead in the fourth quarter by scoring easy points off of fast transitions.
“We had to slow those transitions down,” said Head Coach Donald Williams. “Nashville is fast. They’re an athletic team and they showed a lot of speed and quickness ... They’ll be a contender when the district tournament starts.”
Marshawn Arnold led the scoring for the Badgers with 16 points. Dixon contributed 15 and Trae Bledsoe scored 14.
The Badgers shot 10 of 19 from the free throw line and Williams said that he “will take that.”
“It’s better than what we’ve been shooting,” Williams said.
The Lady Badgers have fallen into a late season shooting slump and were not able to escape a 21 percent field goal average Friday while the Scrapperettes beat them 48-37. Ronnicka Jones led the ladies with 10 points and five rebounds. Jordan Cooper scored nine points and had five rebounds.
The Badgers and Lady Badgers now face a crucial week as the the last two games of the regular season approach. Tuesday, Arkadelphia face rival Malvern at home and Friday Arkadelphia travels to Mena for the last conference game before the district tournament begins. “This is when we have to be playing our best ball,” said Williams.
