Caleb Mays, Reddie and Club Arkadelphia runner, sailed through the two mile race dubbed “Heat in the Street” Saturday morning at the Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation Center.

Mays turned in a 11 minute and 39 second time to win the overall on the course that started in front of the Parks and Recreation building and went out and back on Feaster Trail.

Twelve year old Badger and Club Arkadelphia runner Angel Eley topped the female overall with a time of 14 minutes flat.

The “Heat in the Street” race was part of the Cruisin’ in the Park events held over the weekend in Arkadelphia and hosted by the Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation Department. Other events included a car show, barbecue cook off and softball tournament.

Race director Mike Prince was pleased with the turnout of 24 racers and with the diversity of the group. “We had runners out here from ages 9 to 49,” Prince said. “Girls and boys, men and women ... I want to see more people out for this in the future. This is a good course and a good addition to the Cruisin’ in the Park festival.”

The Heat in the Street race was sponsored by U.S. Bank, Baptist Health and Club Arkadelphia Runners.

The Dam Night Run at DeGray Lake is set for July 31 and registration is currently open. It is the next running race for the local area and is also the next Grand Prix series race.
