Lady Badger sophomore Elizabeth Teed, returning 4A state champion, will be up against fresh competition in the 5A division this year. The Badger and Lady Badger tennis teams are prepared for the first season since the AAA reclassification process put Arkadelphia back in 5A.
For the girls, sophomores Anna Ozmun, Isabella Ragni, and Teed are joined by freshman Madeline Cook.
“We are back in the old 5A Southwest,” Head Coach John Ragni said, “which means we will be playing Lakeside, Little Rock Christian, and Central Arkansas Christian. Lakeside will once again have a very strong team and we will have a difficult time matching up against them.” However, Ragni expects to be competitive within the 5A Southwest.
“Elizabeth has been playing very well lately and I expect her to be one of the top players in the conference,” Ragni said. “Anna Ozmun, who got to the quarterfinals at state last year, should also do well this year. Isabella Ragni and Madeline Cook both have tournament experience and should do well at the three and four slots.”
Junior Brandon Smith, sophomore Chris Dickerson and freshman Hunter Penfield take the court for the boys. Smith, a two year letter winner, will play at the No. 1.
AHS opens their season today at HSU against the Scrappers at 4 p.m.
