BISMARCK - The Fountain Lake Cobras scored eight times before the Bismarck Lions could scratch a run in the sixth inning, but the visitors managed to leave Rusty McLard Field with a 9-1 win in blended conference play on Wednesday.
Fountain Lake opened the game with four runs in the top of the first inning. The Cobras had three singles and two walks in the first inning to go with a sacrifice fly.
The Lions had two fly balls to left field and pop fly to the shortstop in the bottom of the first.
Fountain Lake added another run in the top of the second inning on a single and two walks to lead 5-0.
Collier Robertson singled to left field for the first Bismarck hit, but it came with two outs and a grounder to third base ended the inning.
After getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the third inning,
With one out in the bottom of the third, Zach Webb walked. He moved to third when Sawyer Hardage doubled to the gap in right-center field. A pop fly to second base ended the threat, though.
Fountain Lake added another run in the top of the fourth inning to lead 6-0. In the bottom half of the inning, Robertson singled to right field with two outs and Jesse Parker walked before a pop out to the first baseman ended the inning.
Three singles and an error allowed two runs to score for the Cobras, who led 8-0 at that point.
Hardage walked with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but a pop fly to second left him standing on first.
Brady DePriest led off the bottom of the sixth inning and Braden Gill walked. Depriest eventually scored on an error, but the Lions were on the board trailing 8-1.
After Fountain Lake added another run in the top of the seventh, Webb reached on an error for Bismarck, but was out on a fielder’s choice by Cade Beckwith. Hardage singled to left field to push Beckwith to second, but a fly ball to center and an unassisted bounce back to the pitcher ended the game.
