JESSIEVILLE - Ashlyn Taylor hit a two-run homer over the left-center field fence in the top of the third inning for a 2-0 Arkadelphia lead and pitcher Mollie Daniell threw a one-hitter in the Lady Badgers 2-0 victory against Jessieville at the North Garland County Youth Park on Thursday.
“Mollie pitched a one-hitter and our defense committed zero errors,” Arkadelphia Lady Badgers Lynn Rook said. “Ashlyn Taylor provided all our runs with a 2-run homer.”
Daniell had a single in the top of the first inning with one out, but was left stranded on base for Arkadelphia. Jessieville’s lead off batter walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After another walk and a passed ball, Taylor fielded a high pop fly out and Daniell struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Hannah Fenocchi walked with one out in the top of the second inning for Arkadelphia, but the next two batters struck out. With one out, Jessieville got a walk and a passed ball moved to her to second and with two outs, a single put runners on first and third. A ground out to second base ended the Jessieville threat.
With one out in the top of the third, Nia Nelson singled to center field. She moved to second when Daniell put down a sacrifice bunt. A passed ball moved to Nelson and set up a 2-run homer by Taylor over the left-center field fence. A ground out ended the top half of the inning, but Arkadelphia led 2-0.
Jessieville struck out twice and grounded out to first base in the bottom of the third. The Lady Badgers struck out twice and grounded back to the pitcher in the top of the fourth inning. Three ground outs and a walk in the bottom of the fourth ended Jessieville’s chances, as well.
Nelson got another hit with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, but was left stranded at second for Arkadelphia after a Jessieville error.
The Lady Lions went down in order in the bottom of the fifth inning. Taylor had a lead-off single in the top of the sixth Inning and moved to second on a ground out, but was left there after two strike outs. Jessieville got a lead-off walk in the bottom of the sixth and a grounder moved her to second before another walk was issued with one out. A strike out and a ground out ended the sixth inning.
Still leading 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Badgers struck out, grounded to second and struck out again. Daniell struck out the first Jessieville batter in the bottom of the seventh, then fielded a grounder to get the second out. A walk was issued before Daniell struck out the last batter to end the game.
