GURDON - A 10-run third inning by Centerpoint was enough to break open the game on Thursday in Gurdon to beat the Go-Devils 15-3.
With Reid Ledbetter starting on the mound for the Go-Devils got two ground out before giving up a double to right field, but the Knights grounded out ending the threat. In the bottom half of the first inning, with one out, Dillon Reece singled to left field and moved to second when Justiss Patterson singled to left field. An error moved Reece to third, but Ledbetter hit into a double-play that got Reece and Patterson to end the inning.
Centerpoint got a double to left field and was thrown out at third base. Ledbetter got the next two batters to strike out. In the bottom of the second, a fly ball line drive to center field and two strikeouts ended the inning with the game still scoreless.
With one out in the top of the third inning, Centerpoint got three straight singles and a bases-clearing double. With two outs, a single, a walk, a double, a single and another base-clearing double allowed the Knights to score 10 times in the inning.
Caleb Jacobs was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the third inning, but Gurdon did not score. Centerpoint put up five more runs in the top of the fourth on five singles, a double and error.
The Knights led 15-0 before Patterson led of the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to right field. Ledbetter followed with single to left field and Cole Harper doubled to left-center field to score Patterson. Hunter Mayhue singled to left field to bring in Ledbetter and Harper scored on a ground out by Austin Taylor.
