AMITY - A 23-8 third quarter by the Centerpoint Knights brought them back from a 23-21 halftime deficit to a 44-31 lead and went on to take a 58-38 win over the Arkadelphia Badgers in the final regular season game for both teams in the blended conference era.
Javeon Nelson led the Badgers with 13 points, while Preston Crowder added 12 points in a game where Arkadelphia literally ran out of gas in the third quarter. The Badgers led 12-9 after the first quarter.
Crowder opened the game with a jump shot and Centerpoint tied it. Nelson put back an offensive rebound for a basket, but the Knights scored three straight points. After nearly two minutes of no scoring from both teams, Crowder put Arkadelphia in front 6-5 with a basket. Keyshawn Johnson made a steal for Arkadelphia and Nelson came up with a steal, but for the next two minutes neither team could get a basket.
Crowder put in two free throws with 1:39 to go in the first quarter and Nelson scored off a Shemar Dickens steal. Centerpoint scored and Nelson put the Badgers up 12-7, but the Knights put in another basket to close the gap to three points.
Johnson made a 3-pointer for Arkadelphia to start the second quarter and Crowder added a free throw with 6:12 to go before halftime to make it a 16-11 Badgers lead. After a Centerpoint basket, Dickens scored for Arkadlephia. Centerpoint completed a three-point play and hit a basket to tie the game at 18-18 with 3:20 to go before the break.
Crowder added a free throw to put the Badgers back up by one point and Johnson put in a free throw for a 20-18 lead. Nelson scored inside after a Knight free throw and Nelson put in a free throw after a Knight’s basket for a 23-21 lead at the 36 second mark.
In the third period, Nelson scored the first basket for a four point Arkadelphia lead, but Centerpoint scored nine straight points to take 30-25 lead. with 4:38 to go before the end of the quarter. The Badgers picked up a technical foul and Centerpoint made four straight free throws. The Knights added two baskets after three straight Arkadelphia turnovers and led 38-25.
Nelson scored for Arkadeophia, but Centerpoint answered with two baskets. Crowder scored for Arkadelphia twice before the end of the period, but the Knights led 44-31.
Dillion Scott put in a basket and Collin Medley sank two free throws for Arkadelphia. Anderson Bullock made a 3-pointer for the Badgers to get the game back to a 20-point deficit.
Lady Badgers lose to Centerpoint in final regular season game
AMITY - Allie Harris and Indesia Eley each scored 11 points for Arkadelphia in the Lady Badgers 50-47 loss at Centerpoint in the final regular season game of the 2016-17 season on Friday night in Amity.
August McClure opened the game with two free throws for Arkadelphia, but Centerpoint rallied for 10 straight points to take a 10-2 lead with 4:28 left in the first quarter. Harris made one of two free throws. Harris put in a basket after a Centerpoint free throw, but the Lady Knights added a basket and McClure scored for Arkadelphia. Harris made a 3-pointer and Ka’brelle Stulgate made one of two free throws to cut the Centerpoint lead to 13-11. Centerpoint hit a 3-pointer and made a basket before the end of the first quarter to take an 18-11 lead.
Neither team scored in the second quarter until Eley put in a basket for Arkadelphia at the 3:17 mark. Eley added two free throws with 2:02 to go in the period and Jalise Hayes came off the Lady Badgers bench to score a basket to make it 18-17. An offensive rebound basket by Kayla Goshen put Arkadelphia in front 19-18 and Eley put in a basket for a 21-18 lead with 1:10 to go before halftime. Centerpoint put in two 3-pointers before the half ended to take a 24-21 lead.
McClure scored the first basket of the third quarter and she added another one after a Lady Knights basket to close the gap to one point, Goshen made two of three free throws to put Arkadelphia up 27-26. Centerpoint made two free throws and hit a 3-pointer before Harris made a 3-pointer for the Lady Badgers. Arkadelphia missed two free throws that would have been the lead with 2:19 to play in the quarter and Centerpoint hit another 3-pointer.
Eley made one of two free throws and put in a basket before the end of the third period and cut the Lady Knights lead to 34-33.
After two missed Centerpoint free throws, Dekota Jones made a basket for Arkadelphia and Goshen put in a basket for a 39-34 lead early in the fourth quarter. Centerpoint came back to cut the lead to two with three free throws, but Harris put in a basket for Arkadelphia to make it 41-37.
Centerpoint made a 3-pointer, but Stulgate scored twice for Arkadelphia to make it a 45-40 lead with 3:53 to go. The Lady Knights scored eight straight points to lead 48-45 with 1:11 left. Stulgate scored for Arkadelphia to make it a one-point game, but Centerpoint made two free throws with 20 seconds left and the Lady Badgers missed a chance at two free throws with three seconds remaining.
