GLEN ROSE - The Bismarck Lady Lions are going to the regional tournament next week after they defeated Haskell Harmony Grove 42-32 on Tuesday night at the 5-3A district tournament at Glen Rose High School.
The Lady Lions were led in scoring by Jasa Williams and Haley Vincent who scored 11 points apiece in the victory.
“We have been adding a few new offensive wrinkles the last couple of weeks,” Bismarck Lady Lions head basketball coach Chris Oestreich said. “Those helped, but honestly, I thought my girls just executed much better on offense this game. We also got stops late and limited their second chances.”
Hannah Weatherford scored a basket in the first quarter, Vincent had a field goal and Williams put in two baskets from the inside, but Haskell Harmony Grove got six points from Leighton Withers to lead 9-8 by the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Lions came back with Weatherford hitting another basket, Vincent made a 3-pointer, while Williams made two more field goals and added a free throw. Bismarck outscored Haskell Harmony Grove 10-8 in the quarter to take a slim 18-17 halftime lead.
Mckenzie Efird made a 3-pointer, Vincent had a basket and two free throws, Sara Scott added a basket, Williams put in a bucket and Caryle Norris made a 3-pointer as the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Cardinals 14-7 in the third quarter to take a 32-24 lead.
Haskell was put into a fouling situation and sent Bismarck to the line five times in the fourth quarter. Efird made two of four free throws, Vincent put in a basket, Scott made one of two free throws, Sierra Schwartz added two field goals and Cecilia Howell made one of two free throws. Bismarck outscored Haskell Harmony Grove 10-8 to win by 10 points, 42-32.
“We played well,” Oestreich said. “We play Rose Bud and it could be ugly, but we are through to the regional, so I am pleased. We are glad to be moving forward.”
