GURDON - The Gurdon Go-Devils lost to the Jessieville Lions 68-46 on Tuesday night in blended conference action in Gurdon, then the Go-Devils lost at Prescott 61-52 on Thursday night.
Against Jessieville, the Lions outscored the Go-Devils 22-11 in the first quarter to take control of the game. KJ Tidwell had a 3-pointer for Gurdon, while Cam Gulley added two baskets and one of two free throws and Trent Harper added a three-point play for all of the scoring in the first quarter
Gulley put in four baskets in the second quarter, while BJ Brewer hit a 3-pointer, Trent Harper made two 3-pointers, Kagon Morrison put in a basket and Isaiah Harper scored as the Go-Devils outscored Jessieville 21-15 in the period to cut the Lions lead to 37-32 by halftime.
The Go-Devils got as close as one point early in the third quarter, 41-40, when Tidwell hit a 3-pointer, Brewer made a 3-pointer and added a free throw and Isaiah Harper made a 3-pointer. In the fourth quarter, Jessievlle outscored Gurdon 16-6 to pull away for a 22-point win.
Gulley led Gurdon with 15 points, while Brewer and Trent Harper each scored nine points. Isaiah Harper added five points and Morrison scored a basket in the loss.
“We played pretty well most of the game,” Gurdon head coach David Davis said. “We were down 41-40 midway through the third quarter and ran out of gas.”
Prescott 61, Gurdon 52
PRESCOTT - On Thursday night, the Go-Devils went Prescott and came home with a 61-52 loss.
Cam Gulley led the Go-Devils with 20 points on the night. The Go-Devils fell behind 17-6 after the first quarter.
Gulley and BJ Brewer accounted for all six points for Gurdon in the first quarter. KJ Tidwell put in two 3-pointers in the second stanza, while Courtney Gulley made a basket and Cam Gulley put in a basket and hit a free throw. Trent Harper was the only other scorer in the second quarter for the Go-Devils, who trailed 37-19 at halftime.
Cam Gulley added two baskets in the third quarter, Brewer scored, Trent Harper put in a basket, Isaiah Harper added two baskets and Caleb Radford scored, but Gurdon still trailed 52-39 by the end of the period.
Gurdon mounted a comeback with Cam Gulley scoring five baskets and hitting a free throw. Tidwell sank another 3-pointer, Trent Harper added a basket and Radford put in a free throw as the Go-Devils outscored Prescott 19-9 in the fourth quarter to get close.
Jessieville 61, Lady Go-Devils 19
GURDON - The Gurdon Lady Go-Devils lost to the Jessieville Lady Lions 61-19 in a sportsmanship rule game on Tuesday night.
Jessieville led 19-0 after the first quarter and outscored the Lady Go-Devils 26-2 in the second period to take a commanding 45-2 lead by halftime. Shayla Anna had the only basket for Gurdon in the first half.
Anna led the Lady Go-Devil with 12 points, while Mya Hatley added a basket and Keonya Jones put in five points all in the second half.
Prescott 51, Lady Go-Devils 23
PRESCOTT - Gurdon trailed 11-1 after the first period with Daesha Ivory having the only points for the Lady Go-Devils.
Gurdon only made nine points in the second quarter with Ivory getting a basket, Shayla Anna coming on with a basket and a free throw, Keonya Jones put in basket and Mya Hatley scored, but Prescott led 27-10 at halftime.
Prescott outscored the Lady Go-Devils 22-4 in the third quarter to ice the game. Ivory finished with seven points to lead Gurdon, while Jones had six.
Junior Lady Go-Devils 28, Prescott junior Lady Wolves 26
PRESCOTT - The Gurdon junior Lady Go-Devils picked up a win on Thursday night at Prescott.
Michaela Mayfield led the Lady Go-Devils with 19 points in a 28-26 victory over Prescott. Haven Cooper had five points and Kenzie Harper added four points in the win.
Gurdon led 7-3 after the first quarter and held a 16-10 lead at halftime. Prescott came back to outscore Gurdon 12-4 in the third quarter and take a 22-20 lead. Mayfield scored six of Gurdon’s eight points, while Cooper put in a basket as the Lady Go-Devils outscored Prescott 8-4 in the fourth quarter to come back and win.
Junior Go-Devils 40, Prescott 30
PRESCOTT - Sam Smith scored 11 points and Markel Pollins added nine to lead the Gurdon Lady Go-Devils over the Prescott junior Curly Wolves 40-30 on Thursday night.
Gurdon led 10-7 after the first quarter thanks to two 3-pointers from Smith and two baskets by Pollins. The Go-Devils increased its lead to 24-14 by halftime with Jamison Threadgill getting a 3-pointer, a basket and a free throw for six of Gurdon’s points in the period. Caleb Jacobs added two free throws, while Smith hit his third 3-pointer and Pollins added a basket and a free throw.
Prescott came out halftime an outscored Gurdon 7-2 to close in, but still trailed 26-21 by the end of the third quarter. Gurdon got all of hits points off of free throws in the quarter by Harper. However, in the fourth quarter, Antonio Dickens hit a 3-pointer and made three of four free throws, Jacobs made four of four free throws and Smith sank two free throws as the junior Go-Devils outscored Prescott 14-9 for the win.
