AMITY - The Gurdon Go-Devils haven’t won since defeating the Haskell Harmony Grove Cardinals 69-45 on December 13.
The losses have come in overtime to Fountain Lake, a three-point decision at Ouachita, a 20-point loss to Parkers Chapel, a 22-point loss at home to Jessieville and a nine point loss at Prescott last week. On Tuesday night in Amity against the Centerpoint Knights, the Go-Devils lost their sixth straight game, 59-48.
“They are a fine basketball team,” Gurdon head basketball coach David Davis said. “We played hard, but we’ve just got to get better.”
Gurdon trailed Centerpoint 11-7 after the first quarter. Cam Gulley had a basket, BJ Brewer put in a free throw, Caleb Redford scored inside and Kagon Morgan hit a jumper for the Go-Devils. They battled the Knights defensively in the second period, but still were behind 21-15 at the break. Brewer and Gulley both put in two baskets each for Gurdon in the second quarter for all of the points.
The pace quickened in the third quarter with the Go-Devils putting up 15 points, but Centerpoint was more effective and finished the quarter with 28 points and a 49-30 lead.
KJ Tidwell put in a 3-pointer for he Go-Devils, but Brewer led the way with eight points, three baskets and two of three free throws. Radford put in two more baskets for Gurdon in the third period.
Gurdon outscored Centerpoint 18-10 in the fourth quarter to close the gap. Tidwell made three of four free throws, Gulley made one of two free throws, Brewer put in a basket and a 3-pointer, Austin Taylor came in off the bench to hit a 3-pointer and Donald Haynie came off the bench to hit two 3-pointers for the Go-Devils.
Lady Knights 50, Lady Go-Devils 20
AMITY - Daesha Ivory scored 14 points on Tuesday night for Gurdon in the Lady Go-Devils 50-20 loss at Centerpoint to the Lady Knights.
Ivory had three baskets in the first quarter to score all of the Lady Go-Devils points. Centerpoint led 12-6 after the first quarter and commanded a 28-12 halftime lead. ivory added a free throw for Gurdon in the second period, Shayla Anna added two free throws and Kelteana Tidwell hit a 3-pointer.
Ivory made a basket and complete a three-point play for the Lady Go-Devils in the third quarter. Shayla Anna made one of two free throws, but Centerpoint outscored Gurdon 17-6 in the third to take a 45-18 lead.
Ivory made all of the Lady Go-Devils points in the fourth quarter with a continuously running clock on two of five free throws.
Junior Lady Knights 30, Junior Lady Go-Devils 20
AMITY - Michaela Mayfield scored 13 points to lead Gurdon, but the Lady Go-Devils junior girls lost to the junior Lady Knights of Centerpoint 30-20 on Tuesday night.
Haven Cooper, who had five points in the game, had three points in the first quarter and Mayfield added a free throw as Gurdon trailed 9-4 by the end of the first quarter. Mayfield made two free throws, while Cooper added a basket and Kenzie Harper scored, but the Lady Go-Devils were behind 18-10 by halftime.
Mayfield put in two free throws and a basket for all of Gurdon’s points in the third quarter. Centerpoint led 26-14 by the end of the period. Mayfield also scored all of the Lady Go-Devils points in the fourth quarter by making six of seven free throws.
