The Arkadelphia Lady Badgers eighth-grade team has won five of its last six games.
With an unusual exception of playing a sudden-death game at Centerpoint, the Lady Badgers have defeated everyone they’ve faced since early December.
“They’re tough and playing hard,” said eighth-grade head coach Jenny Coon.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Badgers and Asdhown were tied 10-10 after the first half of play. Gracie Dunaway scored a basket and hit a free throw. Olivia Lock had a basket, Kyla Elgas made a basket and hit a free throw and Aniyah Gulley had a basket for Arkadelphia.
In the second half, the Lady Badgers pulled away and outscored Ashdown 12-3 to win 22-13. Reyna Rogers hit a 3-pointer and a basket, Hannah Calhoon added a basket, Elgas made a basket and a free throw and Haley Nix added a basket for the Lady Badgers.
The eighth-graders are coming off a 24-22 win in overtime over the Haskell Harmony Grove Lady Cardinals eighth grade team last week.
Elgas led the way for the Lady Badgers with a 3-pointer and two baskets to go with a free throw in the firs half., while Khilah Gulley added a basket. Elgas hit another 3-pointer in the second half and added a basket and a free throw for the Lady Badgers, Kailyn Rook-Sims made three of four free throws and hit a basket, while Calhoon made one of two free throws to tie the game in the second half at 22-22.
In the overtime period, Nix put in Arkadelphia’s only basket, while Harmony Grove did not score.
