GURDON - The Gurdon Go-Devils started off fast with a 14-7 lead on Jessieville Friday night and increased it to a 21-7 halftime lead, but the visiting Lions scored 28 points in the third quarter and added two more scores in the fourth to run away with a 47-21 5-3A conference victory at Gurdon.
Gurdon quarterback Thomas Muldrow was 14 of 30 passing the ball for 232 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Muldrow also ran the ball 12 times for 42 yards, while Donald Haynie added 10 yards on five carries and Cam Gulley had 21 yards on five carries.
KJ Tidwell caught three passes for 84 yards and two of those were touchdown receptions. BJ Brewer had two catches for 19 yards, Matt Bullard had two catches for 19 yards, Gulley had one for three yards, while Haynie had six receptions for 107 yards.
Brewer had 15 tackles against Jessieville, while Cole Dill had seven tackles and one fumble recovery for Gurdon. Daniel Moreno had 10 tackles and Bryce Smith had nine tackles.
Jace Simmons scored on a 55-yard touchdown from quarterback Adam Saveal. Simmons also had an interception return for a 15-yard touchdown to make it 35-21 in the third quarter. Steven Benson ran for four touchdowns for the visiting Lions and Drew Galloway had a 20-yard touchdown run in the decisive third quarter.
Muldrow threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Tidwell early in the first quarter and threw a 13-yard pass to Tidwell with 4:35 left in the first half.
After Muldrow’s pass to Tidwell, Jessieville tied the game on Benson’s 4-yard run midway through the first period. Haynie came back for Gurdon to score on a 4-yard run with 9:28 left in the second quarter to make it 14-7. Tidwell’s second catch came later in the second quarter to make it 21-7 Gurdon at halftime.
Gurdon hosts Bismarck on Friday night.
