An important issue will be on the ballot next month. Should Arkadelphia and Caddo Valley merge?
Lillian Blackmon asked for reasons why a voter should or should not vote for the merger. The reason I can see that Caddo Valley should not vote to merge is because Arkadelphia does not have any money to spend on Arkadelphia much less Caddo Valley.
My parents have lived on North 15th Street in Arkadelphia for over 50 years and in that time the city’s drainage ditch has not been maintained, even with the problems being turned in numerous times. I have been trying for over two years to get the drainage ditch next to my house cleaned and repaired because of snakes, mosquitoes, trash, trees falling and damage to my property but to no avail, as the city of Arkadelphia can see no reason to correct this problem and has no money to do the repairs.
The street pavement was crumbling into the ditch and the city’s solutuion was to pour concrete into the ditch. Trees on my property are falling on each other due to the fact that the water can not drain properly. As if the drainage issue is not problem enough, the street in front of my house has been patched numerous times for water leaks. The street department left water running in my front yard for 24 hours, for which I had to pay the water bill.
I have been to a board meeting, with pictures, and I called when the water was up to my house and still the problem has not been addressed other than the concrete that was poured, which presented another problem. Jimmy Bolt told me the water was backing up to other people’s homes as well and nothing has been done about it. Come by North 15th and Hunter streets to see how Arkadelphia takes care of its city and see if this is how you want your tax money spent.
