Letter: Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame award belongs to community

I am writing this letter to express my thanks to the people of Arkadelphia. I am being inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame, but without Arkadelphia, this would not be happening. First, I give glory to God. He is the reason for my success. My family has also been so supportive. I am very proud of who they are and what they have done. Trinity Temple Assembly of God has supported me with prayers all these years.

Letter: Stats on wet counties were accurate, writer says

I have been falsely accused of purposely providing misleading information in a recent letter concerning the wet/dry issue in Clark County.

Letter: Arkadelphia should forget about theatre for now

While nobody can make up their minds on what architect to use, we the taxpayers should have a say in this matter, after all we will be the ones using it.

Letter: Arkadelphia's hospital "deserves better chapel"

This community and hospital deserve better. The chapel is the soul of the hospital. People go there for birth, death, serious illness, and miraculous recoveries — a sacred place for tears and joys needs to be provided.

Letter: Writer refutes comments made about Vote for Growth

Mr. Millsap begins his letter by charging the “A Vote for Growth Committee” with distortion of information. He should be careful in this regard because his letter itself distorts certain facts.
In citing the “drysharpcounty.org” Web site for his proof that wet counties do not grow, he presented incorrect statistics. I bothered to check the Web site, which gives a reprint of an article from the Villager Journal of Cherokee Village, Ark., of Aug. 14, 2008.

Letter: Going wet won't encourage growth, writer says

Going wet won’t make Arkadelphia grow as big as Little Rock, Hot Springs, or Texarkana.

Letter: Take steps to protect against flu

To the Editor: As you are aware, there have been many articles printed regarding the current flu pandemic and how to prevent illness. Unfortunately, not everyone in our community is practicing prevention or is aware of its importance

Letter: Consolidation effort "regrettable"

It is with great interest that I’ve watched a few unhappy residents of Caddo Valley gather signatures and ask that our city be dissolved and become a part of Arkadelphia.

Letter: Trust, representation said an issue in consolidation question

With early voting under way and election day fast approaching, here are a few last thoughts on consolidation. In a recent mailing to Caddo Valley voters, those opposed to consolidation raise two issues: trust and representation.

Letter: Caddo Valley mayor argues against consolidation

The citizens of Caddo Valley have to decide by July 14 whether or not they want to give away their city.

Letter: Arkadelphia mayor, director-at-large address consolidation question

In about a week the election will have taken place and the matter of whether Caddo Valley and Arkadelphia will merge will have been decided. Regardless of what happens, life will go on and we will move forward seeking to do what is best for our community.

Letter: Henderson steps up

Recently the Clark County Community Foundation (CCCF) sent out an appeal for support from the community to help fund an $8000 challenge match from the Ross Foundation in order to build our operating endowment. While making contributions to an operating fund is not very appealing to most donors, it is one of the most important funds we have. Without it we cannot continue to grant funds to our local non-profit organizations. As an affiliate of the Arkansas Community Foundation, having an operating endowment that sufficiently supports the daily office needs is a requirement.

Letter: Arkadelphia doesn't have money for its own residents, writer says

An important issue will be on the ballot next month. Should Arkadelphia and Caddo Valley merge?
Lillian Blackmon asked for reasons why a voter should or should not vote for the merger. The reson I can see that Caddo Valley should not vote to merge is because Arkadelphia does not have any money to spend on Arkadelphia much less Caddo Valley.

Letter: What's in it for Caddo Valley?

I have some questions about the merger.

Letter: Merger of two cities a "rare opportunity"

Tuesday, July 14, the citizens of Arkadelphia and Caddo Valley have the opportunity to vote on a matter that will certainly shape the future of both cities and our county for years to come.  This is a rare opportunity that may not be made available to us again during our life time.

Letter: A sign of character witnessed at game

I am a parent of a senior baseball player at OBU. I witnessed what I believe is a great human interest story. This is intended to shed light on the player who acted with honor and friendship in this day and age where a lot of athletes are self-centered and selfish, where sportsmanship is at best in jeopardy.

Letter: Grateful for Feaster Park

There are a variety of reasons to be glad to live in Arkadephia. Feaster Trail is near the top of my list. I have yet to find a season that I don’t love getting out there for a bit of exercise and clean air. It is away from the noise of traffic, and in many parts resembles a quiet walk in the woods.

Letter: Thanks for supporting Holy Week services

Thanks goes out to all the churches and church leaders in helping plan, conduct and support last week's Holy Week services.

Letter: Thanks to Tiger Serve

Last Saturday, I was delivering things to the Humane Society sale and helping out and I drove home. There I found nine young men working, some on the roof and others on the ground. It turned out they were from Tiger Serve. This organization has helped many people for years with no compensation except the pleasure of doing a good job for people who needed it.

Letter: Those who complain should come up good ideas of their own

In the past two years, Clark County has begun to wake up to the realization that it has to take aggressive action if it has any hope of surviving economically in the future. This county is trying to find ways to inject life into its business community, and there seems to be some impatience on the part of some local residents who want to see progress now.
