Matthew Blackmon, 72, of Hot Springs died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Golden Living Nursing Home in Hot Springs. Services will be held Thursday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at Brandon’s Mortuary in Malvern, with Bro. Billy Blackmon, eulogist.
Burial will be at the State Veterans Cemetery in Sherwood, at 2 p.m. with Brandon’s Mortuary of Hot Springs in charge of arrangements.
Matthew Blackmon was born Aug. 23, 1936 to the parentage of Roosevelt and Maggie Mason Blackmon, Sr. He was of the Baptist faith. Matthew served in the United States Air Force for 11 years, receiving an honorable discharge. He worked for General Motors Company for 21 years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Gladys Cade.
Survivors include two sons: Darren Hunter of San Diego, Calif.,, and Rashaad Blackmon of Dayton, Ohio; seven daughters and two son-in-laws, Doris Jean Cook of Lincoln, Ala., Rhonda Sheppard (Lorenzo) of Jacksonville, Fla., Cynthia M. Adeyemi of Huber Heights, Ohio, Dedra Hunter of San Diego, Calif., Ashley Smedley (Todd), Autumn Blackford and Princess Blackford all of Trotwood, Ohio; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Roosevelt Blackmon Jr. (Mary), of Birmingham, Ala., and Billy E. Blackmon (Tina) of Hot Springs; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Nettie Winston and Dorothy Murray both of Los Angeles  and Betty J. Clegg (Grover) of Portland, Ore.; three aunts, Robbie Morgan of Detroit, Mich., Rena Bowie of Cleveland, Ohio, and Zannie Hatley of Gurdon; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, June 24 from 6-7 p.m. in the chapel of Brandon’s Mortuary Malvern.
