Martha Bennett Moore, a longtime resident of Bronxville, New York, passed away peacefully at age 87 on Aug. 15, 2010. 

Ms. Moore had been married for 46 years to the late Dr. Ivan Bennett Jr., former Dean of New York University School of Medicine. She subsequently was married for eight years to the late Harrison Moore of Bronxville. An active figure in Bronxville civic life, Ms. Moore served as President of the Bronxville League of Women Voters and was an active Member of the Board of the United Nations Association of Westchester County. She had also been Director of an after-school youth program at Forest Hills Community Center in Queens, New York.  Ms. Moore was born Martha Rhodes in Atlanta, Georgia, where she graduated from Agnes Scott College.  She went on to earn a masters degree from the Bank Street College of Education in New York.
As her health deteriorated, Ms. Moore spent the last year of her life in Palo Alto, Calif., in the loving care of her daughter, Katherine Evans. In addition to Katherine, Ms. Moore is survived by her brother, Robert C. Rhodes of Arkadelphia; and by her other three children, Susan Anderson of Baltimore, Paul Bennett of New York, and Dr. Jeffrey Bennett of Springfield, Illi. Martha is also survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by Christopher Moore of Charlotte, North Carolina, Harrison’s son by a previous marriage.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be sent in Ms. Moore’s memory to the Community Unitarian Church of White Plains, New York. A memorial will be held at the church at 1:00 p.m.on Sept. 12, 2010. The address is 468 Rosedale Avenue in White Plains, New York, 10605.
