Extension office offers financial management class

High fuel prices and general economic uncertainty have people keeping a close eye on every penny spent. It’s not too late to learn the basics of financial management. The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service is offering a class to meet financial needs.

Navigating the Financial Journey, approved for bankruptcy debtor education, will be taught during two evening sessions on Tuesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 22, from 6 p.m. to 8:00 pm, and one day session on Thursday, April 22, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Classes will be at the HSU Community Education Center located at 640 South 6th Street, Suite A, in Arkadelphia.

For a fee of $15 per person, participants will cover topics including:

·       Budget Development

·       Money Management

·       Wise Use of Credit

·       Consumer Protection

Kris Elliott Family and Consumer Sciences Agents in Clark County will teach the financial management program.

 

This Extension financial management course is approved by the United States Bankruptcy Trustee as a financial education program, and complies with the laws enacted under the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) of 2005.

A Certificate of Debtor Education will be presented to bankruptcy filers who bring picture identification and their bankruptcy case number.

Participants will learn how to use a budget and spending plan”, said Kris Elliott. “They will also learn how to protect themselves from consumer fraud and misrepresentation.” Elliott said participants will learn about using credit cards and understanding their credit score.
