The public is invited to spend the July 4 evening at a free fireworks display at DeGray Lake Resort. The annual show will be displayed over the lake.
Beginning Saturday at 9:30 p.m., at least 2,000 fireworks — that’s two loaded 28-foot barges — will be shot into the air over a span of about 30 minutes.
Arkadelphia Fire Chief Ricky Arnold will light the fireworks with the aid of the Caddo Valley Fire Department and its captain, David Suttle.
Vickie Egleston of Iron Mountain Lodge and Marina is the director of fundraising for the display. So far, $9,000 has been donated to the show, and donations are still being accepted. Donations will also be accepted after the Fourth of July for the 2010 show. “Prices have gone up” on fireworks, creating a need for more donations, said David Egleston. “We’re about $3,000 short.” Donations can be deposited into an account set up at any Southern Bancorp location. The account is called “DeGray Lake Fourth of July Fireworks.”

The Aquatic Park will be open from 1-5:30 p.m. The sanitation department will run its regular routes on Friday.
