CADDO VALLEY — An alderman resigned and another apologized for non-payment of water bills in last week’s Caddo Valley City Council meeting.
Alderman Tiffany Dunaway, who was not present for the Thursday meeting, sent in her letter of resignation to the council, citing that she “no longer has the drive, time or focus” to serve the city. She also noted in the letter that she would like to spend more time with her family.
Alderman Eric Edington apologized publicly for his non-payment of water bills. As part of an ongoing investigation by auditors and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, several residents — including some council members — were not billed for water services, costing the city’s water department several thousand dollars.
Many, including Edington, have since paid their water bill. According to Mayor Alan Dillavou, Edington said he told the former water clerk that he was not receiving water bills, but did not tell anyone but her.
Edington vowed to pay his bill each month by the due date.
Dillavou said he could not provide an estimate of how much Edington had owed the water department.
“He was behind like several of the other that weren’t getting billed” for their water, Dillavou said.
Also discussed at the meeting was Recorder/Treasurer Sarah Roberts’ refusal to pay Megan Earnhart, the city’s office manager, for a day off due to icy road conditions two weeks ago.
Dillavou said Earnhart called from her home in Prattsville about the icy roads, and she was instructed to take sick leave. “Mrs. Roberts decided (the city) wasn’t going to pay her for a sick day for that,” Dillavou said. “Since the city didn’t have an inclement weather policy, I asked her to use a sick day for it.”
Aldermen voted 4-2 to pay Earnhart for the sick day. Troy Mooney and Willard Thomason opposed the motion.
