1 State asks district to cut back on stimulus spending.
Six months after developing a plan on how to spend the district’s ARRA funds from the federal stimulus act, and after spending some of the funds, the district has been asked not to spend 67 percent of the $1.4 million granted.
The district has so far spent 45 percent of the granted funds on projects like roof improvements at Peake, a security system at the high school and fine arts programs.
2 Golf program started at Perritt.
Mary Taylor, physical education teacher at Louisa E. Perritt Primary School, spoke to the board about the First Tee golf program recently implemented at the school for students between kindergarten and fifth grade.
The only other school districts in the state with the program are Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville.
3 Lowering state’s expectations for the nation?
Board member Dr. Kenneth Harris questioned Superintendent Donnie Whitten if allowing the federal government to lean to states like Arkansas, which has seen educational advancements in the last decade, for standardizing programs and instruction nationwide.
Currently, each state has its own framework for its educational programs and instruction.
4 Board accepts bid for new vehicle
The board voted unanimously to accept a bid for a new vehicle for Whitten to replace a 2004 Jeep Cherokee that “went down,” said Dr. Jeff Root, president of the board.
The district advertised for and received two bids from different companies, and awarded the bid to Gildner for a 2010 Ford Explorer for the price of $27,600.
