Clark County Chief Deputy Collector Ronnie Winkle reminded Clark County residents today about the upcoming deadline for personal property taxes.
Payments can be made in the tax collector’s office in the courthouse Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., she said. They can also be mailed to David Turner, tax collector, 401 Clay St., Arkadelphia, AR 71923. Taxes can also be paid online at www.arkansas.gov, by clicking on the Online Services tab and finding Clark County.
The original deadline for paying taxes was Oct. 10, but since it falls on a weekend, the deadline has been extended to Tuesday, Oct. 13. The courthouse will also be open on Columbus Day.
There are three categories of property taxes, including personal, real estate ands business personal due, according to Winkle.
Personal property includes vehicles, boats, motors, trailers, farm equipment, etc. Real estate includes land or property such as homes, land or mobile homes. Business personal includes any contents of a business, such as machinery or office equipment.
Winkle encouraged anyone who thinks they may be eligible for the Amendment 79 Homeowner’s Credit, a $350 credit, to check with the Clark County Tax Assessor’s office on the first floor of the courthouse prior to paying taxes. Anyone who owns his home and lives in it qualifies for the credit. Also, taxpayers 65 and older can have their homestead “frozen” so that taxes will not increase unless there is a millage increase or an improvement to the home.
