A man was killed early Tuesday morning in a three-vehicle wreck on Interstate 30, said Cpl. Mark Batson of Arkansas State Police. Arkadelphia firefighters were dispatched to assist Caddo Valley firefighters at 2:31 a.m. after a motorist advised authorities of the accident, which happened near the 78 mile marker on-ramp in the westbound lane of I-30. The driver who was killed was apparently driving the wrong way on the interstate.
Batson said, “From what we can tell, a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of traffic, and had a collision.” The first collision, he said, was with a PAM Transport tractor-trailer. The 18-wheeler crossed the median, ending up on its side in a ditch on the other side of the interstate.
The car continued east in the westbound lane, Batson said, and was struck by another 18-wheeler — a Southeastern Freight Lines truck out of Columbia, S.C. The Lexus ended up crammed under the 18-wheeler, and both vehicles crashed into the north ditch of I-30 adjacent to Frost Road.
The driver of the Lexus, who was killed in the accident, was unidentified at press time. Batson said the man’s body will be sent to the state crime lab for identification and an autopsy. There were no oher passengers in the car. No others involved in the accident were injured.
Emergency crews were still at the scene at press time cleaning up the wreckage.
