The Arkadelphia City Board of Directors will meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Boardroom to consider a first reading of the utility rate ordinance, which will call for an increase in water and sewer rates for Arkadelphia and its surrounding communities.

“The consideration ... will affect our citizens as well as the citizens of surrounding communities,” said James Calhoun, director-at-large. “While I agree with the need to raise the rates, I want our citizens to understand why and either coming to the meeting or watching it on cable Channel 9 would be very helpful in our citizens being informed.”

The board will also consider the Planning Commission’s recommendation to rename a portion of North Eighth Street to Elrod Boulevard.

The public is invited.
