Arkadelphia police are investigating a series of car break-in’s that have been happening in one area since mid-December, and are seeking the public’s help in locating the perpetrators.
Beginning on Dec. 20, six vehicles were broken into; on Dec. 24, more than 19 vehicles were entered; and on Saturday, at least five vehicles were broken into.
Sgt. Pete Dixon, criminal investigator for the Arkadelphia Police Department, said the perpetrator(s) have used the same method and are targeting one particular area in Arkadelphia. He said a majority of the thefts and break-ins have occurred on 26th Street, between Walnut Street and Country Club Drive, and within a two-block radius of 26th Street.
Their technique, he said Thursday, is to check each vehicle to see if it is unlocked and, if it is, take everything they can, including guns, cash, wallets, iPods, digital cameras, GPS equipment, hunting gear, cell phones and books.
“We’ve exhausted every lead in Arkadelphia,” he said. One juvenile witness told police that he saw a man enter a vehicle, and he gave a “good” description of one of the suspect’s height, weight and age. Dixon said the suspect is an adult white male. It is believed that both suspects are white males.
“We had a break this weekend,” he said, referring to the arrest of a Gurdon man who allegedly used a stolen credit card twice this weekend at a gas station. After reviewing surveillance video and finding the license plate number, Earnest Stuckey was located and interviewed about the thefts. It is not believed that Stuckey is a suspect in the rash of breaking and entering in Arkadelphia, but he may have information about the suspects. Stuckey was arrested for driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance.
Dixon said that on Tuesday Gurdon police went to one of the alleged suspect’s home on Highway 53 North, but when the man saw officers he fled on foot into a wooded area behind his home. That is where police found four rifles, a compound bow, a GPS unit and some marijuana underneath a tarp. A search for the suspect was unsuccessful.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is also involved in the investigation, Dixon said.
Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call Arkadelphia police at 246-4545 or the sheriff’s office at 246-2222. All tips and information can be anonymous.
