Gov. Mike Beebe has been invited to a ceremony in Little Rock where he will unveil four of the 10 new hybrid police cars purchased by the City of Arkadelphia. Mark Kizer, general manager of Mett-T in Little Rock, said Thursday that a brief ceremony will be held next Friday, where Beebe is expected to show. “He has been invited,” Kizer said. “It is a green project for a police department, so he was very interested (in attending).”

Motorists passing through Caddo Valley may have noticed something a bit different — that is, if they have seen the city’s new police cars.

Arkadelphia police are investigating a series of car break-in’s that have been happening in one area since mid-December, and are seeking the public’s help in locating the perpetrators.
Beginning on Dec. 20, six vehicles were broken into; on Dec. 24, more than 19 vehicles were entered; and on Saturday, at least five vehicles were broken into.

Icy road conditions caused a two-vehicle accident early Monday morning on Interstate 30 in Clark County, killing an Iowa man and injuring a Texas man, according to a report filed by the Arkansas State Police.

It’s been cold this week, with highs barely breaking the freezing mark, but the air is expected to get even colder, with lows near 10 degrees — and snow and ice are in the forecast. This type of weather poses dangers ranging from home heating hazards to health conditions that can be fatal.

Those who use Feaster Trail in the early morning and late evening hours are urged to use caution while walking because a portion of the walkway will be dark, said the Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation Department on Wednesday.
