The three-time Great American Conference champion Henderson State football team opened fall practice on Monday Aug.6, officially kicking off the Reddies' trek towards a fourth GAC title since 2011.
The 2018 Reddies reported to campus on Friday and attended the first meetings of the year on Saturday and Sunday. Henderson returns four starters on offense and six on defense from last season, which saw the Reddies go 6-5 overall and in GAC play.
Top returners for the Reddies in 2018 include senior receiver Ben Johnson, who is one of seven active players in the GAC with 1000 or more receiving yards in his career, senior linebacker Cameron Sonnier, who has led the team in tackles each of the last two seasons, senior safety Malik Brown, who had three interceptions and five pass break-ups in 2017, and senior guard Daniel Moore, who has started 29 games in his career on the offensive line.
Henderson's fall camp will feature 20 practices before the 2018 fall semester begins on August 21. The Reddies' 2018 slate of games kicks off on August 30 at Ruggles Field in Carpenter-Haygood Stadium, when Henderson squares off with defending national semifinalist Harding at 7 p.m.
