The City of Gurdon recently became part of a small number of Arkansas cities to be fully awarded for community excellence.
The Arkansas Municipal League gave its four-star municipality award to the community for excellence in employee safety, wellness, vehicle safety, and prevention of legal liability.
“We all work diligently to stay safe on the job,” said Mayor Sherry Kelley. “It takes extra effort to do things the right way and I appreciate our team. We have a great group of people and we all work together.”
In terms of legal liability prevention, Kelley regularly sought advice from City Attorney Todd Turner, as well as municipal league attorneys.
“Their assistance is invaluable to me.”
The league has offered the Certified Municipal Official program to city leaders, in which Kelley participated. She was certified earlier this year. The program covers topics such as municipal finance, municipal personnel management, and government structuring.
