Daniel “Dan” Patrick Dempsey, passed away on June 21, 2018.
He was born on December 2, 1933 in Ione, Arkansas to Jackson C. Dempsey and Bernice Holland Dempsey. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Legena.
He was raised in North Little Rock and graduated North Little Rock High School in 1951. Dan attended Arkansas State Teachers’ College in Conway, UALR in Little Rock and Oceanside College in California, earning a bachelor’s degree.
He was Executive Chef, Food and Beverage Director and Manager of the Camelot Hotel in Little Rock, District Manager of four historic hotels in Eureka Springs and General Manager of Lake Hamilton resort in Hot Springs; as well as General Manager of Hiltons, Ramada Inns, Holiday Inns and other hotels around the nation.
He was named “Tourism Person of the Year” in Hot Springs in 1996, Board Member of Arkansas Hospitality Association, and was appointed by Governor Mike Huckabee to be a Commissioner in the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Association. He was also active in Republican politics, served as fourth District Chairman for several years, and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1996.
Dan served as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of Caney Baptist Church in Bismarck, Arkansas.
He is survived by his children, Jack Dempsey, Sean Dempsey, and Kristen McCune; three grandsons, Daniel, Chris and Branson Dempsey; four great-grandchildren, Camden, Barrett, Deacon, and new grandbaby Dempsey on the way; special friend Karen Turner of Bismarck, her daughters, Lyndsey, Sloane, Mallory and Sydney; her granddaughters, Riley and Lydia; and also his three little buddies, Chandler, Lucas and Hank McMahan.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Caney Missionary Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Caney Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.ruggleswilcox.com.
