The Arkadelphia Badger soccer team defeated Danville, while the Lady Badger soccer team dropped their first round game to Dardanelle in the Class 4A state soccer tournament Thursday.

The Arkadelphia Badger soccer team defeated Danville, while the Lady Badger soccer team dropped their first round game to Dardanelle in the Class 4A state soccer tournament Thursday.
Arkadelphia opened the scoring as Nick Levar headed one in from the middle off of a corner from JJ Manrique with 29:31 left in the first half to take a 1-0 lead.
Danville got the equalizer from the left side from 20 yards out to tie the game with 26:00 left in first half.
The Badgers regained the lead with just over 21 minutes left in the first half as David Noriega got the ball from 25 yards out. Noriega made a move to his left and found the lower left corner of the net.
With four minutes remaining in the first half, Levar got his second goal of the match on a PK after a foul in the box to put Arkadelphia up 3-1.
Aidan Dodson put a rebounded shot through to the back of the net to extend the Badger lead to 4-1 with 12:08 left in second half.
The Badgers went on to score once more in the half to take a 5-1 victory. Arkadelphia will now advance to the quarterfinal round to face the Hamburg Lions at 2 p.m. Friday at Southside High School in Batesville.
In girls’ action, the Lady Badgers were able to strike first nearly eight minutes into the contest as Gabbi Wempe took a pass in the open field and got a shot past the keeper from the right side to the left corner to give Arkadelphia a 1-0 lead.
Dardanelle got an equalizer just a few minutes later on a shot from the middle 15 yards out to the top right corner to tie the match at one each.
Dardanelle took the lead moments later, but the Lady Badgers respond as Wempe’s shot went off the crossbar and Aijah Jenkins put in the rebound to tie the match. Arkadelphia regained the lead as Jenkins scored on a breakaway and got a shot past the keeper.
The Sand Lizards managed to tie the match with less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half, as a pass from the left side went into the back side of the defense. Dardanelle managed to find the back of the net. The Sand Lizars took the lead with two minutes remaining in the half.
Dardanelle managed to hold Arkadelphia scoreless in the second half en route to an 8-3 victory.
