“Tha Truth Basketball League” (TBL) is a league organized for local basketball players from the age of 18 and older to showcase their skills.
It was founded with the intention of giving people in the community a fun activity to participate in, and to donate financially to the Arkadelphia Bulldogs AAU team and Arkadelphia High School basketball program.
Derrick Campbell, Broderick Beard, Vernon Moody and Thaddeus Roberts are the men behind the vision and success of the TBL.
“The league is geared toward helping the kids, but this gives a chance to the men in our community to do something positive,” stated Campbell.
“All of the proceeds that we make from the TBL, goes towards the Arkadelphia Bulldogs AAU team. The money is used to cover uniforms, hotel stays, tournament fees, food for the kids and anything else we may need for the upcoming season,” he added.
The amateur league is in its second season and is expecting to take things to the next level. The TBL is currently looking to expand the league with women and kid’s divisions to get even more people involved from local communities.
“There aren’t enough things for women to do in Arkadelphia, but there are a lot of women who have played basketball before. When word got out that we were going to start a women’s league, that had more excitement than when we originally introduced the men’s division," Beard stated.
"There are women who support their boyfriends and husbands in the men’s league, now the men will be able to support their girlfriends and wives. I think it will take the league over the top and we’re looking forward to it,” he added.
The TBL primarily holds its games in the Arkadelphia Recreation Center on Sundays and Wednesdays from 6-9 p.m. This season’s champion will receive a $1,500 payday from the Brighter Tomorrow Foundation.
“You get to come here and watch local players compete in a controlled, safe and fun environment,” Beard said.
