A Friday evening robbery resulted in an arrest Monday morning.
During the weekend, Arkadelphia Police Department Chief Jason “Shorty” Jackson revealed the robbery had take place at on Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. A person associated with a downtown Arkadelphia business was approached by an unidentified black man after closing their business for the day.
According to Jackson, the suspect waited outside until the person exited. A confrontation took place involving a weapon. The man took cash and then fled on foot. The merchant was reportedly not harmed.
Between the robbery and the arrest, the department advised caution and offered standby for business owners leaving work.
On Monday, a person of interest was arrested for aggravated robbery. Authorities viewed video surveillance provided by businesses and developed a suspect.
Jackson confirmed that some of the stolen property has been recovered. It is believed that the suspect acted alone. The investigation is ongoing.
“The police department would like to thank area businesses for providing video on a weekend which aided in this investigation, along with Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson and agents from the Group 6 Drug Task Force, who are assisting in the investigation,” Jackson concluded.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the suspect’s name has yet to be released by authorities.
