The Arkadelphia City Board of Directors unanimously approved a master services agreement with Grimes Engineering Consultants, Inc. for the Arkadelphia Municipal Airport.
The agreement contains the development and update of a five year Capital Improvement Plan, and the development and update of the Overall Development Objective Data Sheet.
Plans are also included to correct/straighten non-standard deviation in taxiway pavement, as well as maintenance to the runway and improvements to the various hangars at the airport.
“One of the issues we have always fought is the drainage of the airport,” said Arkadelphia City Manager Gary Brinkley.
According to Brinkley, engineers have suggested revisiting the proposed drainage plan and make a modification.
“There is a very old drainage ditch that runs on the north end of the property and Grimes suggested we clean that ditch out to relieve approximately 40 percent of water on the north end from flowing all the way through the airport to the southern WPA ditch,” Brinkley said.
City staff has looked at cleaning out the ditch and engineers have estimated it would be $200,000 to clean the ditch.
Brinkley noted that Code Enforcement Officer Thomas Free has met with land owners and received approval to bring ADC prisoners onto their property to stage the clean out, Street Department Supervisor Kenny Myers will bring the necessary equipment to move dirt at the south end and Anthony has coordinated the pipeline approvals.
“We should be able to clean out the ditch, make an immediate positive impact on drainage and gain credit points with FAA that we are making progress to further encourage their $2.1 million new runway investment in 2019,” Brinkley said.
