As has been the case for many years, Henderson State University and Ouachita Baptist University have used trash bags to cover many of their signs and other features in preparation for what is the most heated time in the rivalry between the two schools.
Arkadelphia Police Department Chief Jason “Shorty” Jackson has advised that vandalism will not be allowed.
“We love and enjoy this historic rivalry between our two great schools. However, we want to make sure that every student and all property are protected. Vandalism only tarnishes this great tradition and it will not be tolerated," said Jackson.
Of the 90 games played, HSU leads in overall wins with a total of 43, while OBU follows with 41. The remaining numbers were six ties.
HSU picked up wins in games played in 1907-1912, 1918,1923, 1928-1930, 1932-1933, 1941, 1950-1951, 1963, 1965, 1968-1969, 1973 -1974, 1976-1979, 1985, 1989-1992, 1996-1998, 2000, 2006-2007, 2010-2013 and 2015.
OBU scored victories in an unsanctioned 1895 game. They went on to win games in 1915-1916, 1919-1922, 1924-1926, 1931, 1934-1935, 1938, 1940-1941, 1945-1946, 1948-1949, 1966-1967, 1970-1972, 1975, 1980-1984, 1987,1999, 2001-2003, 2008-2009 and 2014
The Tigers won last year's contest by a score of 30-27.
The six ties occurred in 1914, 1927, 1947, 1964, 1986, and 1988.
The Reddies will travel across the street to face the Tigers at Cliff Harris Stadium this Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
