Next week's Arktoberfest will feature a zombie-filled experience for those looking to get into the Halloween spirit.
The Arktoberfest Zombie Run for 2017 is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 27 at Slim and Shorty’s, located at 617 Clinton Street.
Downtown Arkadelphia will feature a post-apocalyptic setting. Flag belt-wearing runners will be chased through downtown by zombies who will be trying to take their belts. Runners will be classified as "survivors" if they are able to reach the finish line with one or more flags intact. Those who finish bearing no flags will be considered “victims.”
Running teams will be allowed provided they have a similar or themed attire. If a sole member of the team survives, then the entire team will survive.
Those who wish to act as a zombie must arrive at the area by 6 p.m. if they need assistance with make-up. Those who do not need make-up and who will apply it independently must be present by 6:45. It is advised that assistance will be provided there, but it will be limited due to time. A staging area will be provided for the zombies where they will receive assignments and be taken to haunting areas.
Prizes will be given out for best dressed zombies and best dressed individual and teams. Runners are encouraged to select any theme except zombies or related creatures so as not to cause confusion on the course.
The cost for interested races is $25 for those 18 and older and $20 for those under the age of 18. Participants will receive a t-shirt and survivor/victim medal. Zombie participation is voluntary.
The run is scheduled to commence at 7:30 p.m. and is expected to last until 10 p.m. Onsite registration and flag belt and T-shirt pickup are onsite at 6 p.m. outside Slim and Shorty’s.
