After pounding the Mena Bearcats 45-6 last week, the Arkadelphia Badgers will return home this week to take on the Ashdown Panthers in a very important conference game.
Both the Badgers and the Panthers will bring an overall record of 6-1 and an identical conference record of 3-1 with them into Badger Stadium.
The Nashville Scrappers, a team the Badgers defeated 34-24 in Week 4, handed Ashdown a 35-28 decision last week to give the Panthers their first overall and conference loss.
“Ashdown has got a lot of really good football players,” said Arkadelphia Head Football Coach J.R. Eldridge.
In addition to bringing a talented roster of players, Eldridge said the Panthers are well-coached.
“Offensively, they are more of a spread look. They did lose their starting quarterback who signed with LSU to play baseball,” said Eldridge.
Despite losing their starting quarterback in Week 4, Eldridge said Ashdown’s second string quarterback is a sophomore and is a talented player.
Defensively, Eldridge noted the Panthers are expected to bring more pressure than any other team the Badgers have faced this season.
“They can really, really run. They have a lot of fast guys,” Eldridge said.
Overall, Eldridge is looking forward to the challenge and noted the Badgers have had a great week of practice in preparation for Friday’s game.
Kickoff from Badger Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.
