In keeping with the organization’s mission to positively impact the lives of local children in the community, Junior Auxiliary of Arkadelphia annually awards two scholarships each spring (one to Arkadelphia High School and the other to Gurdon High School) to graduating seniors who plan to use their education to impact or enhance the lives of children.
Sidney Medley, daughter of Eddie and Penny Medley of Arkadelphia, is a graduate of Arkadelphia High School, where she earned a 4.0 grade point average. She will be attending Henderson State University in the fall where she plans to major in early childhood education. She dreams of one day becoming a teacher.
Jazmine Johnson daughter of Milton and Debra Allen of Gurdon, is a graduate of Gurdon High School, where she has earned a 3.78 grade point average. She will be attending Ouachita Baptist University in the fall where she plans to major in elementary education. She dreams of one day becoming a teacher.
Medley and Johnson were presented certificates at their schools’ respective awards assemblies in May and presented with a $600 check at the July chapter meeting. At the meeting, the graduates met Mrs. Pennington and current members to learn more about the work of the local chapter in their communities.
Junior Auxiliary represents a serious endeavor on the part of women to be active and constructive community participants while assuming leadership roles in meeting community needs.
The National Association of Junior Auxiliaries provides their members with the opportunity to serve and to be a vital part of the community while encouraging members to render charitable services which are beneficial to the general public, with particular emphasis on the welfare of children.
