The board had the first reading of an ordinance allowing a city employee to contract with the city.
In December, the board learned that in order for city employees or their relatives to do contract work for the city that is beyond their normal scope of work duties, there must be an ordinance in place to allow such activity. The ordinance was passed in December 2016 to cover the issues from 2015.
According to Gills, an instance was discovered in 2016 that needed to be addressed at Tuesday’s meeting.
Wade’s Lawn Care, owned by firefighter Ryan Wade, was paid $145 for lawn care work.
The ordinance that will come before the board Tuesday pertains to the hire of services from Wade’s Lawn Care.
In addition, directors had the second reading of an ordinance to rezone property at 225 North 13th Street and approved the master agreement for professional services at the Arkadelphia Municipal Airport was approved. The agreement was for a two-year contract with Garver Engineering.
Thanks to the reopening of the Clark County Landfill, Gills said the city of Arkadelphia’s Sanitation Department will be able get back on track with picking up large loads for disposal at the landfill.
According to Gills, residents who need large items picked up must call the sanitation department at (870) 246-1804 and leave a message. The items will be scheduled for pick up.
“Please be patient with the sanitation department as they work this project in with their normal weekly duties,” said Gills.
