Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation Center will be hosting its second annual “My Prince and Me” dance this Sunday.

Arkadelphia Parks and Recreation Center will be hosting its second annual “My Prince and Me” dance this Sunday.
The community wide event will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. for pre-kindergarten through sixth grade girls. They are encouraged to bring their dad or father figure and dance the night away. Other features include desserts, photos, fun activities, a live DJ, and even a guest princess.
The dance will be Valentine’s Day themed this year. The price of admission is a canned foods to help support the Clark County Ecumenical Food Pantry, which is a network of local churches who organize food gatherings to help the community.
The CCEFP works with the Clark County Charitable Health Services to provide registered clients and families with food and other non-perishable items every third Tuesday of the month.
Derek Phillips, Community and Special Events Coordinator for the City of Arkadelphia, said he was approached last year by a concerned mother in hopes of initiating an event of this magnitude in the area because their aren’t many activities for younger girls.
The first “My Prince and Me” Dance was brought to Clark County as a result of the creation of a committee.
“My favorite part is just seeing the girls and their dad’s dancing and having a good time,” said Phillips.
Phillips said 156 girls and their escorts attended last year’s dance. He hopes to see the number grow this year.
The committee for the dance recognizes that families come in many forms and wants everyone to feel welcome to come and participate.
The dance is sponsored by Bank of the Ozarks in conjunction with the city of Arkadelphia.
As a new resident of Arkadelphia, Kayla Burchfield, Bank of the Ozarks Arkadelphia Branch Manager, said she is delighted to be taking part in making this special event happen.
“I have been joyed to see how this community comes together to help each other,” said Burchfield. “My Prince and Me is just another example of that.”
Other sponsors for the dance include The Gossip Shop, Ashley White Photography and Sugar Mamas Bakery.
You can RSVP for the dance on the My Prince & Me event page on Facebook or call Derek Phillips at (501) 213-6110.
