A debate tonight will mark the beginning of local political coverage for the Daily Siftings Herald.
The Clark County Candidate Forum will commence at 6:30 p.m. in the Clark County District Courtroom, beginning with welcoming remarks from Siftings Reporter Jamal Brown. Arkadelphia resident Kyle Jones will serve as moderator for the event.
Those who debate will draw straws; the person who pulls the shorter straw will take the podium first.
The event will begin with a two-minute introduction by Clark County Assessor Kasey Summerville. Summerville’s opponent Melody Rogers will not be at the debate due to a schedule conflict.
Challenger for the District 18 seat Richard Bright will then be given two minutes to address the audience. Bright’s opponent, Incumbent Richard Womack, will not be participating in the debate due to a schedule conflict.
Following remarks by Summerville and Bright, Incumbent JP Tom Calhoon will square off against his challenger Derek Helms.
Ricky Arnold, a candidate for JP District 11, will not be at the debate due to a conflict. His opponents, Stan Rogers and Mike Cox, did not respond to an invitation to participate in the debate.
Finally, Incumbent County Judge Ron Daniell and challenger Troy Tucker will debate.
The public is invited to the debate. Tonight’s debate could last up to two hours, and seating is limited. Comments from the event will be used in a series of articles pertaining to coverage of political races in the Siftings Herald.
