Eddie Allen, 71, of Gurdon, was called home to meet Jesus Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, comfortably at his home.
Eddie was born Oct. 16, 1944, to Earl Allen Jr. and Syble (Akin) Allen of Gurdon. Eddie was a great husband and father to his family. He was an entrepreneur all of his life. A convenience store owner, which lead into the origination of Allen’s Barbecue, Eddie built the Allen name in barbecue. The barbecue stacks up anywhere in the country and will continue to carry on with his legacy. He was the Allen of Allen’s Barbecue. Eddie was an avid coon hunter and horseman. He has been known as one of the finest dog trainers in the country and was also known as a horse whisperer. He always had the patience that would tame the spirited of horses. Eddie was of the Baptist faith. He loved his family, friends and all of his animals. He was a true man of his word and had many great stories to share. Eddie always had a smile on his face, keeping us on our toes.
Eddie is preceded in death by his mother and father, Earl Allen Jr. and Syble (Akin) Allen.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Barbara Allen of Gurdon; daughter, Stacey Burkins and husband Larry Burkins of Saint Augustine, Florida; son, Steven Allen and wife Christie Allen of Gurdon; daughter, Kerri Yearby and husband Jason Yearby of Gurdon; grandchildren, Britni, Brooke and Bailie Burkins, Kylie Allen, Dustin and Keith Curry and Barbara and Matt Yearby; brother, Kenny Allen and wife Christie Allen of Hot Springs; nieces, Kelly Jo Whitlock and husband Jason Whitlock of Little Rock and Cassidy Jones of Hot Springs; great-niece. Grace Ann Whitlock; and two great-nephews, Brady Whitlock and Jack Jones.
Pall Bearers were Larry Burkins, Jason Yearby, Matt Yearby, Keith Curry, Dustin Curry, Jerry Gates, Paul “Cotton” Cox and Dale Murray.
Honorary Pall Bearers were Kenny Allen and Steve Allen.
Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. prior to the service at noon in Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon Chapel with Brother Phillip Brown officiating, formerly of Gurdon.
Interment followed in Center Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Gurdon.
