HOT SPRINGS — It has been a busy summer at Mid-America Science Museum with record numbers of field trips, and visiting families and groups from all over the country flocking to Hot Springs. That’s why educators at Mid-America Science Museum have decided to celebrate on Saturday, August 20th with a Summer Science Smash! Presented by KYE-YAC International, the event will take place from 10 am to 3 pm. There will be freshly grilled hamburgers and hot dogs available for purchase in the Creekwalk Café and museum educators will be engaging in some outdoor hands-on science activities that include water balloon pinatas, exploding watermelons, shaving cream play-doh, bubbles, and other surprises!
“KYE-YAC International is thrilled to be presenting the first Summer Science Smash at Mid-America Science Museum,” said Kye Masino, founder and Executive Director of KYE-YAC. KYE-YAC International board members will be onsite during the event volunteering to help area youth with many of the hands-on science activities happening at the museum which includes operating an actual trebuchet built by the museum’s exhibit department. KYE-YAC is a group of kids who believe all children deserve a chance to thrive. Composed of an all youth board of directors who choose charities to support after site visits and in-depth research their goal is to contribute to a world which youth everywhere may collaborate to create a better tomorrow. To date, KYE-YAC has supported over 100 causes and contributed over $500,000 to youth-related causes in Arkansas and beyond.
Parents attending Summer Science Smash are encouraged to bring a change of clothes for the kids as it’s sure to be a messy day of science fun. Museum guests will also be able to engage with the more than 100 other science exhibits that are available including the museum’s current Dinosaurs Revealed traveling exhibit, which is scheduled to be leaving on Labor Day.
