The Bismarck Lions wrapped up the opening round of the Bismarck Junior High Basketball Tournament by defeating Magnet Cove to advance to Round 2.
Bismarck dominated the court after the tip, picking up 17 points in the opening quarter while holding Magnet Cove to eight.
The Lions then hit five of six free throws to help reach 23 points in the second period, but Magnet Cove only hit one of their three as they put up 12 for a 40-20 Bismarck lead.
Magnet Cove’s defense took priority in the third period, allowing only eight points, but the Lions still were able to stretch their lead, 48-26 with six minutes remaining.
The final period was a thriller as the Panthers fought with all their might to get on top, but the Lions fought back, losing a portion of their lead while taking the game, 57-39.
Ryan Looper led the Lions with 21 points while making seven of his eight attempts at the charity stripe.
Nate Asher added seven, and Parker Robertson and Chance McMullin had six each.
Ryan Gillespie put up four, Hayden Ratcliffe, Jared Compton and Collin Sheperd three and Isaiah Patton two.
The Lions will face the Centerpoints Knights in the second round of the tournament tonight at 7:45 p.m.
