A shot by Angelique Robinson as she was fouled helped lead the Lady Badgers to a win over Hope Tuesday night at home.
Arkadelphia got off to a good start in the first eight minutes, and at the buzzer, they held a single point lead, 9-8.
Hope took the lead in the second period as they added 13 while holding the Lady Badgers to nine, 21-18.
After the break, the Lady Cats continued to lead after adding 14 to take a
35-31 lead.
The final 30 seconds of the game, however, were the most exciting of the night.
With 19.8 seconds left in the game, the Lady Cats held a 41-40 lead as Kelsey Kobe stepped to the line. She hit one of her two to knot the game at 41-all.
After a Hope player took the ball to the basket, Angelique Robinson drove her way to the hole, drawing the foul and making a seemingly impossible shot.
Robinson, who was injured as she hit the floor after the foul, was taken out of the game, and Brooke Pritchard came in to take the and-one.
The shot was up and good to give the Lady Badgers a three-point lead with 3.7 seconds to go.
Arkadelphia’s defense forced the Lady Cats to take a shot from inside the arc, and the buzzer left the score in the Lady Badgers’ favor, 44-43.
Robinson finished the night with a double-double, picking up 11 points with 10 rebounds and four steals.
Kobe added nine points with nine boards and a pair of blocked shots.
Karnesha Wright had five points with four boards and two steals.
Katie Brech put up five while grabbing six boards and earning three assists, and Kaitlyn Reid had four steals and three assists.
“The biggest difference in the game was we forced 26 turnovers,” said head coach Lynn Rook. “We held ours to 14, so there was a plus 12. We also out-rebounded them 34-31.”
The win gives the Lady Badgers a 3-3 conference record for fourth place as the team heads into Friday’s game at Hot Springs which signals the end of the first half of conference play. Tip-off for Friday will follow the JV Boys game which begins at 5 p.m.
