Henderson State University Theatre will present seven performances of “The Miracle Worker” by William Gibson at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, 21, 22, 24, and Dec.. 4, 5, and 6. A reception will follow the opening night performance.
“The Miracle Worker” is a story of the miracle of the human spirit and the human mind that won six Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1959. Twenty-year-old Annie Sullivan sets out to do what the experts of the age could not — teach language to a deaf and blind child, Helen Keller, who does not even know what a word is.
The cast of “The Miracle Worker” features Cameron Wright of Yukon, Okla., as Annie, and Stephanie Ouimet of Wills Point, Texas, as Helen. Also included are Bethany Baldwin of Maumelle, Hillary Bell of Benton, Sarah Burns of Hot Springs, Andrea Butler of Texarkana, Texas, Tara Jackson of El Dorado, Emily Kirk of Benton, Marcus Perez of Gentry, Ryan Quin of Pilot Point, Texas, Justin Slaughter of Arkadelphia, Andrea Tucker of Lepanto, Seth Wylie of Leola, and Belinda Yegela of Arkadelphia. Associate professor of music William Higgins makes a guest appearance as Capt. Keller.
The play is under the direction of Claudia Beach, Henderson’s director of theatre. The design team includes: Doug Gilpin, professor of theatre, designing scenery; William Henshaw, associate professor, designing costumes; Fred-Allen Self of White Hall, designing lighting; and Stuart Bailey of Saint Jo, Texas, designing sound. Rebecca Manion of Miami, Okla., serves as stage manager.
The Theatre Box Office in Arkansas Hall will be open for advance ticket sales from 1- 4 p.m. beginning Monday, Nov. 17. All seats are reserved. Admission is $6, or free with an HSU student ID, courtesy of the Student Activities Board.
