Two goals proved to be enough for the Lady Badgers to move to 1-0 in their conference schedule Friday. Arkadelphia held the Little Rock charter school Academics Plus goalless while earning another 2-0 win.
The Lady Badgers found another much improved team in their opponents, but unlike their 2-0 match against Hot Springs, the Lady Badgers were able to go into the half with a 1-0 lead after a corner kick from Caitlin Secrest found Rebecca Rosas at the near post. Rosas put the ball in the net off a one-touch flick.
Then, early in the second half, Lady Badger Sarah Miller made a long cross-turned-shot from the sideline that sailed over the goal keeper’s head and into the net on the far-post side of the goal.
Arkadelphia’s conference schedule competition is showing sure signs of improvement. "Academics Plus is faster and showed us better defense than what we saw from them last year,” said Head Lady Badger Coach Drew Smith. “They have a new coach and their skills show that they are working hard.”
“This was a good conference win for us. It is always good to battle a conference game out to a win, especially since we were missing three starters to another school function. It helps us know that we can find a way to win in a close game and that is great for our confidence.”
The Lady Badgers travel to Lutheran Thursday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
