The Gulf South Conference officially closed the door on another exciting decade of collegiate athletics with the release of the GSC All-Decade Teams (2000-09).
Henderson State had a total of 17 student-athletes on the GSC All-Decade Team including eight First-Team selections.
Spring Sports
Kelcie Glidden played a important part in building the Henderson State softball program a Four-Time First-Team All-GSC selection, Glidden earned was named the Shortstop of the Decade in the West Division after being a three-time All-Region Selection and 2008 Daktronics All-South Region Player of the Year. Glidden earned All-American Honors in 2008 after having a .419 batting average with15 home runs. She also earned NFCA All-Region honors in 2008.
Glidden holds HSU career records for batting average (.396), has the career record for hits with 277 hits in 699 at bats. She also holds records in runs scored (196), doubles (53), Home Runs (50) total bases (486), RBI (155), stolen bases (105) and slugging percentage (.695). Glidden earned GSC All-Tournament honors in 2006 and was the GSC West Division Hitter of the Week five times.
Outfielder Lauran Lewis earned Second-Team honors. A three-year letter-winner earned a spot on the All-GSC team all three years including first team honors in 2005 and 2006. Lewis hit for a career .346 average totaling 169 hits, 110 runs, 27 home runs and 39 doubles. Selected GSC Hitter of the Week three times, she earned GSC All-Tournament honors in 2006.
One Reddie baseball player earned All-Decade Team accolades as Cody Deal was a Second-Team selection. Deal played in 2004 and 2005 and was a GSC 1st-Team selection after leading the Reddies in hitting with a .437 average in 2005. Deal also earned ABCA All-Region honors and was a NCBWA All-American Honorable Mention selection. Deal collected a HSU single-season record 83 hits including 23 doubles.
HSU golfer Ben Cuzen was a Second-Team All-Decade selection. A four-time All-GSC selection, Cuzen earned First-Team All-GSC honors in 2010. A three-time GSC Academic Honor Roll Member, Cuzen was also a 2010 All-GSC All-Academic pick.
Cuzen advanced to two NCAA Regional Tournaments (2008 and 2010) finishing 20th in 2010. He won the 2007 and the 2010 Doyle Wallace Classic and the Ouachita Baptist Invitational, and finished second two other times in 2010.
During his career he recorded 13 top 10 finishes and placed in the top 15 at every GSC Championships during his four years.
Lady Reddie Tennis player Carrie Freeman had a brilliant career at Henderson State (1998-2001) and earned GSC All-Decade Team Honorable Mention honors. Freeman was a four-time First-Team All-GSC selection and a three-time GSC All-Academic Team selection. Freeman is the only player in HSU history and only the fifth player in GSC history to earn First-Team All-GSC honors four straight years.
During her career she won over 70 percent of her matches.
