Arkadelphia’s Lady Badgers made up for a 29 percent field goal average with 18 steals and 39 rebounds to beat the Lady Hornets 60-33 at Pulaski Oak Grove Tuesday.
“Normally you don’t have anything negative to say after winning by 27,” said Head Coach Lynn Rook, “but we missed 50 shots.”
The 20 out of 70 attempts the Lady Badgers did make combined with the 16 out of 23 free throws to make more than enough offense for Arkadelphia, especially since the the Lady Badgers were dominating the defensive game.
“We had a great night defensively,” said Rook.
Arkadelphia’s defensive pressure kept the Lady Hornets held to an even worse shooting average, only making 11 of 28 attempts (28 percent).
The Lady Badgers out rebounded Oak Grove 39-34 and the turnover margin also went to Arkadelphia’s favor, 12-27
Chekeita Roberts led the Lady Badgers with 12 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Jasmine Dickerson scored 11 points, also had three steals and contributed two assists. Chelsea Welch scored 11 points and was another Lady Badger to take three steals. Ronnicka Jones scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds, three steals and contributed two assists. Britlee Williams scored six points and had three steals. Briana Seale scored five points, grabbed nine rebounds and gave three assists.
“We had five girls with three steals,” said Rook.
The Lady Badgers finish back-to-back road games tonight when they take on Waldron. They return to the AHS gymnasium Friday against Nashville.
