The comedy and drama of the play Steel Magnolias, by Robert Harling, is coming to The Charles and Anita Cabe Auditorium. Under the direction of Todd Lucas, the live performances will be Jan. 20 and 21 beginning at 7 p.m. each evening.
According to Lucas, "The play takes place in a beauty shop in northern Louisiana in the late 1980s. The play opens when a young bride is getting her hair done for her wedding day."
Lucas said this is one of four scenes that involves important events in the lives of the women at the beauty shop. Auditions for the play began in September and the group, Arkadelphia Little Theater, has been working on the production for four months, Lucas said.
The play is presented in two acts, with two scenes each. There is a 15 minute intermission and the entire experience is two hours and thirty minutes.
The cast includes; Truvy played by Sherry Wright, Clairee played by Melinda Morris, Ouiser played by Trisha Vaught, M'Lynn played by Stephanie Simpson, Shelby played by Nicole Kelly and Annelle played by Melissa Hinton. The costumes are by the Beehive Store, set design by Eric Clay and stage manager Andrea Tucker. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Lucas invites the people of Gurdon to, "Come and see our live adaptation of one of America's most loved stories."
